Next time you're sitting at your desk and feeling achy and cramped, your body is probably telling you 'I need to move!' So, here are a few tips to help you feel energized:
1. Stand up every time you get a phone call, even if you stand up just to say hello.
2. Stop sending emails to colleagues who are around the corner. Get up and talk with them.
3. Do cross-body exercises. Sounds weird, but, they actually help connect your right brain to your left brain. Try the 'cross crawl': stand up, lift up one foot and at the same time, reach down to touch your foot with the opposite hand. Keep switching sides.
4. Sit on a ball. An unstable surface keeps you moving all day — and it helps you to strengthen your core. Plus, it keeps you sitting upright. It's literally impossible to 'slouch' when you're sitting on a ball.
5. Take exercise breaks from the computer. Stretch your wrists, fingers, forearms. Also, give your eyes a break. Do 'tracking' exercises: look from side to side and up and down without moving your head. These exercises help you to use both eyes equally. Every 15 minutes alternate between looking near and looking far.
